Hyssop In the Dessert

HYSSOP IN THE DESSERT

My scripture study would at times bring me to a point where the term Hyssop would appear. I understood it to be a Biblical plant used many years ago. As my studies went into more depths I began to realize that Hyssop was still a real player as far as end time prophesies. Some things that are to be fulfilled are the building of the Third Temple, The Anti Christ, and the Jews going Home. It became apparent to me that for the Jews to build the third Temple and dedicate it to God, they would have to have several things, control of the Temple mount, ceder wood scarlet thread, a red heifer and Hyssop. I began to do a search to find out where Hyssop could be found.

My study Bible suggested that Marjoram was the actual biblical plant used because of its many medicinal attributes. Also a statement was made that Hyssop Officialous could not be the same plant that was used to reach up to Jesus on the Cross with Gaul because Hyssop officialous only grows three feet tall and then it's only a shrub. The encyclopedia agreed. I went to the Library and every thing that I read, which wasn't much, said much the same thing. Herb books said much the same thing however, the Herb books suggested that Marjoram was the plant because Hyssop Officialous was so diverse. It could work on so many different ailments at the same time and it was not consistent. It didn't work on everybody the same.

I found an old herb book at my Grandparents house in Eureka Springs, Arkansas that said that Hyssop was used by witches to break spells of other witches. It was not well liked by witches because it would cause there own spells to be null effect. However, it was used for protection against other witches casting spells.

Many times I would reach a dead end and stop the search only to be thrust back into the search as my Bible study would cross that undeniable fact that the Jews would have to have the Biblical plant Hyssop. One day on my job I was driving on a back oil field road, somewhere between nowhere and no place, as I was searching for this location I was contemplating about Hyssop, I couldn't get it out of my mind. I had exhausted every avenue of research that I knew and had no where else to go. Finally in desperation I prayed to God and said, "God if you want me to know about Hyssop you'll have to show it to me." I was stopped at a 'Y' in the road wondering where to go and I looked to my left just outside my door and there was a shrub about three feet high, with pretty blue flowers on it. As I gazed down it became apparent that this plant looked much like the plant Hyssop. I got out of the truck and cut some stems with flowers on them. All day long I argued with God about the fact that this plant could not be the plant. This was impossible for me to believe. Why would he take me out into the New Mexico dessert and show me a lone plant that looks like the plant that I was looking for unless it was in fact the plant I was looking for?

It was just, too unreal. When I got home I reread the literature I had found and undeniably this plant resembled Hyssop officinalous. I took it to a friend who I Bible studied with and who was aware of the importance of the Biblical Hyssop. We looked up in his herb book and discussed it. It matched, but I still couldn't believe. My friend got so excited that he said lets go get the plant and bring it back. We discussed it for a while and decided that it was not an endangered plant. It actually was growing in the edge of the road on oil leases and was for the most part a dessert bush. No one would give much thought to us taking it because everyone I spoke to had no idea or cared what Hyssop was. We made a plan to get the plant.

We hooked up a trailer to my friend's large Chrysler. We got some yellow buckets, that we filled with water, and some digging tools. We headed out on this adventure that would at most take a couple of hours. The first thing that happened was we could not keep the yellow buckets stable, and some buckets dumped out their water. We adjusted the ropes and went on.

As we approached the plant in the afternoon, we unhitched the trailer and emptied the buckets of water, what was left, on the base of the bush. It was a warm afternoon and you could see for a long distance. There were oil wells, mesquite bushes, and red sand for ever. We began digging and with the water we poured on the ground,.we could only dig about 6 inches. It was as hard as cement. My friend had an idea. It was just a small bush anyway. He got a chain out of his trunk and I tied it around the root of the bush which was about an inch and a half in diameter. He got in his car. I stepped back out of the way where I could see what was happening to the plant. I could see my friend in the car from where I was standing. He began tugging on the plant, gently at first then he began to give it more gas until his tires started to spin. He let up and waited for a moment as he decided what to do next.

He started bumping the gas in such a way that the car would lounge forward and then roll back. Each time he increased the speed he increased the force. I knew that the root was about to break, it had to with that much force that was being applied. We stopped and tried digging more with just a little success. It became apparent that the root of this little bush was headed straight down and wasn't tapering, that meant that it must go down for a great depth. We tried one more time with the car and chain. My friend really pulled hard on the Hyssop bush because we decided that even if we got part of the plant as hearty as it was it probably would survive.

By now I was coaching saying, "ok back it up this time it'll come. Hit it hard," and sure enough he gave it all the car had. This time something was going to break for sure. When the chain reached the end of its slack, something broke. All right I thought until I could clearly see what happened. To my disbelief the large Chrome bumper pulled off of the car and was hanging by one bolt. I looked inside the car and my friend was looking back with great anticipation hoping that I would say it's free. Instead all I could say was "you don't want to see this." He immediately got out of the car and ran to the back and there his bumper was hanging off the car by one bolt, part on the ground and part on the car. He then looked at the Hyssop bush and it stood straight and tall as if to be proud of its victory over the Chrysler.

My friend proceeded to pull the bumper off of his car as it was just barley hanging. He disconnected the chain and asked me to help him. We loaded the heavy bumper onto the trailer and as we did we realized that the trailer hitch was on the bumper and we could not take the trailer home now. We talked about our options which were not much. We decided to go back to town, which was about 50 miles away, get my little truck and come get the trailer that night. The oil field is noted for thievery however I never heard of anyone steeling a Hyssop bush. Now I know why.

We loaded up in the car and headed for Home. There is a smaller town in between there and home that we stopped at. We stopped to get something to drink at a convenience store. It was now two hours later and we had failed to reach our goals and the sun was going down. When we got into the car, it would not start. We tried everything and people coming to the store would stop and help. We tried recharging the batter, we cleaned electrical connections and worked on the starter. Finally we decided to call the wives to come and get us. By now our heads were hanging quit low. We went out with such joy and great anticipation and now we wondered why we started the hole thing in the first place and to make matters worse no one answered at home. We were stuck 20 miles from home with a car that wouldn't run, a trailer left in the desert and a Hyssop bush that I knew was laughing at us.

Finally an hour or so later we got through to the wives, they were together. My wife brought the van and we towed the car home. By now it was about 9:00 p.m. at night. We discussed whether we should go back and get the trailer after all nothing had turned out right so far. We loaded my little ford and headed south again, we returned and the Hyssop bush stood proud and tall, the trailer with the large chrome bumper, the buckets and tools. It was so peaceful out in the desert so late at night the stars could be seen from horizon to horizon, the air was cool with a slight breeze.

We paused for a moment and experienced the peace and began hitching up the trailer. As we headed home that night it was after midnight we didn't say much. We both were trying to figure out the lesson in the whole matter. We both felt as though we went out on a journey and came back beaten and humbled. To this day when we talk about trouble we use the term yellow buckets meaning warning, beware, like a yellow light. When we see real trouble we say your bumper just fell off. To our friends who know the story they get a good laugh when we say that.

My job situation changed after that and I didn't go back to that same area for a couple of years. When I did, I expected to see the bush dead after the damage we did to it. As I drove up, I wasn't sure if I was at the right Y in the road. There was a bush but it was much larger. It was six feet tall and much wider. It had the same flowers, it was the same bush, it had doubled in size and was prolific with flowers. I marveled at the sight and the Lord reminded me of the story Jesus told about the husband man that had a grape vine that wouldn't produce. The master said: " dig it up and burn it." The husbandman said, "wait let me dig around it and prune its limbs for one season and then we will see if it will produce." The master agreed and the husbandman did as he said. The next season this vine out produced all the others. Somehow that's exactly what we did.

This however didn't resolve the problem about how did they reach up to Jesus on the cross with a limb of Hyssop 6 or 8 feet long. About a year later after we returned home with our tails tucked between our legs I was setting on another oil field lease eating my lunch and again I was pondering the plant Hyssop. I said to God I cannot resolve it on my own you will have to show me. I again turned and looked outside my window and saw a tree 25 or 30 ft tall. I was parked at an old homestead. This tree had leaves and flowers just like Hyssop Officinalous but the leaves were huge in comparison and the flowers were also larger. I looked around and on the ground were smaller plants just starting to grow and it was the same plant. This old tree could be as old as 100 years. Its trunk was about 4 feet in diameter. It had been there so long that many large limbs had broken off and new growth had started growing out of the stubs.

I proceeded to cut some stems with leaves and flowers with the intention of taking them to my friend. When he saw what I had and I told him what I found, there was a moment of deja vou. We decided we would go out together and look at the tree only. We went humbled this time and it was not as far from town. When we got there, we brought our bibles and decided to ask the Lord what it was he was trying to teach us about the Hyssop plant. We sat in the bows of low hanging limbs and read the whole book of James. As I was standing there, I picked up some of the dried limbs that lay on the ground. I took my pocket knife and skinned the wood back to fresh wood. I smelled the wood and it was so good to smell. It was like the air after it rains. I picked up several pieces of wood to take home. Then I got out a camera and took pictures of my friend as he sat in the tree so that we would have proof of our little excursion. My friend laughed and said you know when you develop those pictures you will see fire all about on the ground around us. I thought he's really getting into this. In fact I didn't take him seriously because the way we would tease each other I figured that's what he was doing and I didn't give it another thought.

The film set on our dresser for several years because getting pictures developed is a low priority. When my wife brought me the pictures as my friend had said the pictures had what looked like fire all about. I remembered what my friend said and took the pictures to show him. I continued to study Hyssop and learned that the Jews will have to have Hyssop in their ceremonies especially the burnt offering of the Red Heifer. The third temple cannot be consecrated without it. I finally found information on the Net about Hyssop Officinalous at; htp://www.PlanetLink.com/hyssop/hyssop.html; where I could find actual information that confirmed what God showed me.

We experimented with the plant and found that it is good with congestion, and sinus problems. We have boiled the leaves when the air was dry and we were suffering with respiratory infections, it seemed to help. We also found out that by burning the wood was like burning incense and it helps my son with his asthma. It seems to clear the air. We have used the ash of the wood mixed with olive oil for anointing and praying and it seems to have an effect.

At the web site given above there are testimony's and historical data about the effects on people done in true research labs, people who have HIV are in remission because of the use of hyssop. I believe this is the medicine for Gods people. I believe God is reintroducing it in these end times because I believe that our modern medicine will not be able to keep up with the new viruses and plagues that are coming. Hyssop has a greater effect on people who pray while they use it. There are a few plants that God designated as plants to be used by his people and Hyssop is one of them along with frank incense, Mur, aloe, mint, dill, cumin, and curry.

I have even cooked meat on a grill using Hyssop wood to smoke the meat and it gives the meat an unusually sweet savior. The Pioneers brought Hyssop out to the western desert with them all the way from Europe. The European Christians used Hyssop in some of their ceremonies and didn't understand why. Those ceremonies date all the way back to biblical times in the Holy land and the Jews. The Homesteaders planted these plants near their water wells. They knew something about this plant that we have forgotten.

God has a purpose for this plant and his people. He wants us to become educated to its benefits for our use the end times. Mans medicine will fail in the last days but what God says is good is good and lasts through all ages.

I give thanks to the Lord for the knowledge he has given me and pray that I may share it with someone that it will help them. In Jesus name Amen.
